PRE-OPERATIVE

  • Provide us with your medical history and lab exams
  • Discontinue using Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, and Vitamin E for one week before and a few days after your procedure as these act as blood thinners
  • It is advisable not to smoke for at least two weeks prior and one after the surgery as nicotine can impair circulation and healing
  • Avoid sun exposure as not to irritate the skin.

SURGERY

The surgery is usually performed as an ambulatory procedure or in the office with local anaesthesia and sedation. The surgeon will mark out the excessive skin on the upper eyelid so the final scar will be hidden when the eye is open. The scar in the lower eyelid is very close underneath the eyelashes and extends out to a crease line.

POST SURGERY

Ice packs are used over the eyelids in order to decrease the amount of swelling, keeping the eyelids comfortable. It is best to sleep propped up for a week following the surgery as this is when most swelling tends to occur.

SUMARY

  • Surgery length: one or two hours
  • Anaesthesia: local with sedation
  • Clinic or hospital internment: day clinic
  • Post surgery: stitches removed after 7days
  • Physical activities: walking, resume after 2 weeks, gymnastics after 4 weeks
